In a 2015 study by GoDaddy and  Redshift, of over 4,000 very small to small businesses surveyed, 80% do not have websites. Yet 76% of those surveyed felt it would help their business.  Of those who have no website, 14% do have a business Facebook page. Another 11% can be found in an online business directory or on eBay or Etsy or something similar. But let’s face it, even if you’re on social media, operating without a website is just silly. A website is an essential piece of your online marketing strategy.
You only get one chance to make a good first impression!

Much like you initial appearance in an interview, or maybe even a first date with someone new,  the initial appearance of your website makes a statement about you.  No one likes to think that we are so shallow as to dislike or distrust someone in less than a minute, but it is true.  It is how we relate to people and really it is how we relate to a website. So as you go to build your new website, or if you already have one and are looking to improve it, ask these questions below? Why, because this is what your potential customers are asking as they come to your site.

  • Is my site trustworthy?
  • Is my site credible?
  • Is this company professional?
  • Is this company stable?

Your website needs to answer these concerns rapidly, before a visitor loses interest. An article on the Time website, you have about 15 seconds to catch someones attention on your site.  55% of people who click on your page will leave that fast.  That isn’t much time to make your first impression – so you don’t want to waste it.  So many things can effect whether your company can be easily found on the internet, so once a potential client comes you want to make sure that their first impression is the right one. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at some practical ways you can get people to come to your sight and stay there.
